Why We're Building a Garden Coworking in Porto
Let's be honest: most coworking spaces look the same. White walls, fluorescent lights, rows of desks, and maybe a sad plant in the corner trying its best to survive. You could be in Lisbon, London, or Los Angeles and wouldn't know the difference.
We're building Vila because we believe work doesn't have to feel like that.
Screens vs. Nature
Here's the thing: humans weren't designed to spend 8-10 hours a day staring at screens under artificial light. We need sunlight, fresh air, and green spaces. Not as a luxury—as a baseline for staying sane and productive.
That's why Vila has a 1,000m² garden. Not a small terrace with two chairs. A real garden with trees, outdoor workspaces, hammocks, and an outdoor kitchen. You can take your laptop outside, work under a tree, and actually enjoy your day.
Porto's Climate Makes It Possible
Porto has over 200 sunny days a year. The weather is mild, even in winter. Why would we waste that by keeping everyone indoors?
In most European cities, outdoor coworking would be a nice idea for two months of the year. In Porto, it's viable year-round. We'd be silly not to take advantage of that.
Work-Life Balance, Not Work-Life Blur
Remote work was supposed to give us more freedom. Instead, a lot of people ended up working longer hours in worse environments. Kitchen tables. Bedroom desks. Coffee shops where you feel guilty about staying too long.
Vila is designed to support actual work-life balance. Work indoors when you need focus. Step outside when you need a break. Use the hammock when your brain needs to reset. The garden isn't decoration—it's infrastructure for better work.
What We're Building
Vila will have all the standard coworking stuff: comfortable desks, meeting rooms, fast WiFi, good coffee. But what makes it different is the 1,000m² garden space:
- Outdoor workspaces with WiFi and power
- Hammocks for reading, thinking, or napping
- Outdoor kitchen and bar for events
- Shaded seating areas
- Real plants and trees (not plastic)
We're opening in Summer 2026 in Cedofeita, Porto. If you're tired of fluorescent lights and want to work somewhere that actually feels good, join our waitlist. We'll keep you updated as we build this thing.
